Northern Colorado is a great place to live at any time of year, but in the Fall, it’s particularly lively. Beyond all the cultural, recreational and outdoor activities that residents enjoy, there is also a variety of Northern Colorado fall festivals.

Elk Fest in Estes Park

Thanks to its proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park is known as a wildlife-spotting hub. To coincide with the elk rut and celebrate the animals that literally wander through the center of town, Estes Park hosts Elk Fest in late September. This event features elk seminars, Native American culture and elk-inspired crafts. It is filled with activities for all ages. From film showings and live music performances to crafts and hands-on activities, there’s a little something for anyone!

Fortober Fest

The classic Oktoberfest gets a Fort Collins spin each year at Fortober Fest. Located in the heart of Old Town, this event is an exciting way to spend your weekend. It is a family-friendly celebration that features live music, German-themed food and, of course, beer. Because it’s in Fort Collins, the emphasis is on local brew. Stop by at any point over the weekend- you are sure to find something of your taste.

Colorado State University Homecoming

You don’t need to be an alumnus to enjoy Colorado State University’s Homecoming festival. The weekend-long celebration includes a homecoming parade through Fort Collins, a bonfire with fireworks, a 5K run/walk and, of course, a football game.

Civil War Weekend

Relive history as re-enactments at Greeley’s Centennial Village Museum recreate Civil War-era military drills and simulated battles at Civil War Weekend. Actors take the roles of soldiers, blacksmiths and printers, as a civil war campsite springs up on the museum’s grounds. Grab a bite from a chuck wagon on-site and interact with facilitators.

Fall Back Beer Fest

Have you ever wanted to know the science and process behind Colorado’s best craft brews? The Fall Back Beer Fest in Estes Park invites over 30 local breweries to distribute unlimited samples of over 100 different beers. Purchase tickets to this event to learn about and try all of Colorado’s finest brews. Live music and children’s activities will also be featured at the fest, along with craft sodas, kombucha and food vendors. You don’t want to miss this event.

Anderson Farms Fall Fest

From mid-September to the end of October Anderson Farms transforms into a Fall wonderland. It includes activities like a petting zoo, pumpkin patch, corn maze, fire pit rentals and endless interactive activities for the kids! For more information on pricing and directions contact Anderson Farms for your next family fall experience.

Community Reads Programs

Fall is a great time to be an avid (or casual) reader in Northern Colorado, as Loveland and Fort Collins’ community reads programs bring world-class authors to speak, with a pair of Pulitzer prizewinners visiting the region. Each year, Loveland Loves to Read and Fort Collins Reads both bring special guests to their events to facilitate discussions on books and talkbacks for the communities.

Of course, Northern Colorado fall festivals are just a sliver of the regional activities to enjoy. Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley and Windsor are chock full of events year-round, making 55 Resort Apartments at Water Valley an ideal place to spend your retirement – or the years leading up to it.
